Northwestern Names Athletes of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern has named its Athletes of the Week for May 14. The selections were made based on athletic competition from May 7-13.
MALE -- Ryan Bos, Baseball
Junior Ryan Bos (Barrington, Ill./Lake Zurich) ended the regular season with his best pitching performance of the year. Even though the team lost the series finale against Minnesota, 4-3, Bos threw his first complete game of the year, giving up just one earned run.
FEMALE -- Simona Petrutiu, Tennis
Junior Simona Petrutiu (Constanta, Romania/Southern Illinois) stood out among her teammates at the NCAA Regional this weekend, winning twice in singles and twice in doubles. Against UIC on Saturday, she teamed with Ruth Barnes (Cambridge, England/Hills Road Sixth Form College) to win 8-1 at No. 3 doubles, then clinched the Wildcats' win with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles. In the regional final against Kentucky, Petrutiu and Barnes gave NU its only doubles win, 8-3, and then Petrutiu earned a three-set victory (6-1, 3-6, 6-2) for NU's third point of the day.
