EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern University has named its Athletes of the Week for April 30. The selections were made based on athletic competition from April 23-29.
MALE -- Luke Donald, Golf
Senior Luke Donald (High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England/Royal Grammar School) earned his third straight Athlete of the Week honor after carding a final-round, 7-under-par 64 at the Fossum Spartan Intercollegiate in East Lansing, Mich., to win his third consecutive tournament and the 12th of his career. His 54-hole total of 205 was the third best in NU history, and his final-round 64 is his career low as well as third overall in the NU record book for an individual round.
FEMALE -- Women's Tennis Team
The women's tennis team earned its third consecutive Big Ten title Sunday at the Stickney Tennis Center in Columbus, Ohio. Northwestern, the No. 1 seed, defeated Purdue in the second round (4-1) and then met the fourth-seeded Ohio State Buckeyes in the semifinals. NU downed OSU 4-0 to advance to the championship match against second-seeded Illinois. The Wildcats fell behind early, losing the doubles point, but won four singles matches to take the title, 4-2. The win gives NU an automatic berth into the NCAA Championships, which begin May 12.
