Softball Falls to Michigan State, 5-0

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern softball team fell to Michigan State, 5-0, Sunday in East Lansing, Mich. The 'Cats, who defeated the Spartans 10-0 on Saturday, tallied five hits to the Spartans'eight in Sunday's contest.
The Spartans opened the game with three runs in the top of the first inning, and added two more in the fifth to take the 5-0 victory. For the 'Cats, junior Katie Gross and freshman Carri Leto went 1-for-1 at the plate. Juniors Rane Gunderson, Gretchen Barnes and sophomore Alyson Schulz each tallied one hit.
Pitchers Brie Brown and Lauren Schwendimann shared time in the circle. Brown pitched three and one-third innings, striking out two and allowing three runs on six hits. Schwendimann threw three and two-thirds innings, striking out three and allowing two runs on two hits.
NU's record stands at 19-22, 7-11 in the Big Ten. The Wildcats are next in action on Thursday, playing their final home game of 2001 against nationally-ranked DePaul.
