EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern University has chosen its Athletes of the Week for April 9. The selections were made based on athletic competition from April 2-8.
MALE -- Luke Donald, Men's Golf
Senior Luke Donald (High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England/Royal Grammar School) shot a final round 7-under-par 65 to win medalist honors at the Ford U.S. Collegiate Golf Championships in Puerta Vallarta, Mexico. Donald trailed by two shots going into the final round, but overtook Nick Cassini of Georgia on Sunday to record the 10th tournament win of his collegiate career. Donald's total of 202 (70-67-65=202/-14) is the best 54-hole score in NU golf history. He bettered his own record of 204 set at last year's U.S. Collegiates.
FEMALE -- Alyson Schulz, Softball
Sophomore first baseman Alyson Schulz (San Diego, Calif./Serra) hit her first home run of the season in the `Cats home-opening, 3-0 win against Northern Illinois. She followed it up with a dinger in game two of the NIU doubleheader, then hit her third home run of the week in a 5-0 win over Minnesota on Friday. Schulz also scored four runs during the six-game week, hit one double, stole one base and had eight RBI.
