
Women's Tennis Defeats Illinois, 4-3

Evanston, Ill. - The 11th-ranked Northwestern women's tennis squad won their second match of the week by defeating 25th-ranked Illinois, 4-3. Northwestern started strong, taking two of the three in doubles matches to notch the first point of the day.
In singles, NU picked up easy wins at No. 1 and No. 4 singles from Colleen Cheng (Hillsborough, Calif./Burlingame) (6-0, 6-2) and Marine Piriou (St. Pol-de-Leon, France/Notre Dame) (6-0, 6-1), respectively, to go up 3-0. Illinois fought back to take the next three matches to set up a final match showdown at third singles. Shannon Duffy (Plano, Texas/Plano) clinched the dual for NU with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win over Tiffany Ekloy.
The Wildcats are now 11-2 on the season and will next be in action against Purdue at home on March 9 at 3 p.m.
