Northwestern Names Athletes of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern has named its Athletes of the Week for March 26. The selections were based on competition from March 19-25.
MALE -- Kellan O'Connor, Swimming
Sophomore Kellan O'Connor (Phoenix, Ariz./Brophy Preparatory) earned All-America honors at the NCAA Swimming Championships over the weekend, finishing fifth in the 200 butterfly. It was the highest individual placement for the `Cats. In prelims of that race, O'Connor broke his own school record for the fourth time this season and then bettered that time in finals, finishing in 1:44.40. He also placed 23rd in the 200 individual medley and 29th in the 100 butterfly, bettering his 28th and 38th place seedings, respectively.
FEMALE -- Kate Rudkin, Fencing
Sophomore Kate Rudkin (Boulder, Colo./Boulder) finished fourth in the epee weapon at the NCAA Fencing Championships in Kenosha, Wis., over the weekend. Rudkin posted 16 wins during the tournament, but fell to eventual medalist Emese Takaca of St. Johns in the semifinals. In only her second year, Rudkin is already fourth on NU's all-time epee win list with 195 career victories.
