Women's Tennis Edged By Fresno State, 4-3

EVANSTON, Ill. - Playing without senior Shannon Duffy in the lineup, the No. 12 Northwestern women's tennis team dropped its third match of the season, 4-3, to No. 14 Fresno State Wednesday afternoon at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
The Wildcats fell to 13-3 on the season while the Bulldogs improved to 11-2.
Fresno State opened the match by sweeping all three doubles matches for the first point. NU's Lia Jackson and Simona Petrutiu battled with Fresno State's Liesl Fichtbauer and Courtney Jantz at No. 2, but the Bulldogs rallied from a 7-4 deficit to win the match 9-7.
The Wildcats won three of the six singles matches, at Nos. 3, 4 and 5. Sophomore Marine Piriou kept her 13-match win streak alive with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Simone Jardim at No. 3. Petrutiu defeated Chantel Wiggins, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 and Jessica Rush came from behind to defeat Ewa Grusiecka, 2-6, 6-0, 6-4 at No. 5.
The Wildcats will face Cal on Saturday, March 24. Match time is set for 2 p.m. CDT.
