Women's Golf Wins USF/Waterlefe Invitational

Evanston, Ill. - The Northwestern women's golf squad captured their first team championship of the spring season, defeating host South Florida by seven strokes at the Waterlefe Country Club (par-72, 6,009) in Bradenton, Fla. NU led by as many as nine strokes, but after struggling in the second round, took a one stroke lead into today's final. NU solidified the win shooting the final days best round of 301. The `Cats placed all five golfers in the top-twenty, including three in the top ten. This is NU's second tournament title of the year as they won the Central District Classic in the fall.
Emily Gilley shot a final round 73, jumping seven spots to second-place. Gilley finished three strokes shy of medalist Michelle Simpson (Florida International). Hana Kim and Elizabeth Burden also finished in the top ten, firing rounds of 73-75-80=227 and 73-77-75=225, respectively. Christie Hermes and Kristen Beystehner round out the Wildcat contingency finishing 12th and 19th.
