
Wrestlers Trounce Marquette, 39-4

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern wrestling team got back to its winning ways Friday night, trouncing Marquette University by the score of 39-4 in Milwaukee. Jason Erwinski, NU's 157-pounder, started Northwestern off on the right foot as he pinned Jake Harreld in the second period. Ryan Kane kept NU going, earning a decision at 165 pounds over Dan Bernardo, 12-8. The Curran brothers, Andrew and Brendan, teamed up to earn NU nine more points in the next two matches, as Andrew pinned his opponent and Brendan earned a 8-2 decision.
Will Marcantel, the Wildcats 197-pounder, kept the pressure on as he major decisioned George Flannick, putting Northwestern up 22-0 in the first five matches. Josh Saul didn't get a chance to wrestle as Marquette forfeited the heavyweight division.
At 125 pounds, Northwestern's Rob Potashnick jumped right back on the winning horse and earned a technical fall in the first period. Both teams forfeited the 133-weight class, declaring it a draw and awarding no points.
Marquette finally got on the board at 141 pounds, where Phil Bronsteatter major decisioned Josh Ballard 11-3. In the final match of the night, NU's Ryan Cumbee pinned Andy Zychowicz at the 4:50 mark.
