EVANSTON, Ill. - USA Baseball announced today that baseball coach Paul Stevens will serve as an assistant coach for the 2001 USA Baseball National Team. The team will be made up of collegiate all-stars, who will play approximately 30 games on the USA Red, White and Blue Tour this summer.

Pat McMahon of Mississippi State will take on head coaching duties, with Stevens and North Florida's Dusty Rhodes serving as his assistants.

"What an incredible opportunity and privilege it is to represent this country and our national pastime," said Stevens. "Being selected as a coach on the USA Baseball National team in 2001, along with having played for the USA team in 1975, I truly feel I have come full circle with USA Baseball. I couldn't be more excited, honored or blessed with this opportunity."

Stevens is entering his 14th season with the Wildcats, where he has compiled a 347-370-4 overall record to become NU's all-time winningest coach. He has received two Big Ten Coach of the Year awards.

This will be his first coaching assignment with USA Baseball. As a player, Stevens earned a silver medal with the 1975 USA Baseball National Team that competed at the Pan Am Games in Mexico City.
