Women's Tennis Falls to No. 12 Vanderbilt, 5-2

The 20th-ranked Northwestern women's tennis team fell to 12th-ranked Vanderbilt 5-2 on Friday in the quarterfinal round of the United States Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Women's Team Indoor Championships in Madison, Wis.
Northwestern's two wins came in singles, from senior Colleen Cheng and sophomore Marine Piriou.
Cheng, playing at the No. 1 position, downed Vandy's Julie Ditty with ease, winning 6-3, 6-3. Piriou had to go three sets before shutting down Kate Burson, 7-6(3), 6-7(0), 6-3.
With the loss, the Wildcats are now 5-2 on the season. The Commodores improve to 10-0. NU will be back in action on Saturday, February 24 when they open Big Ten competition at Michigan State. Match time is set for 11 a.m. (CDT).
