EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern University women's cross country runners Rachel Evjen (Eau Claire, Wis./North), Emily Blakeslee (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) and Nora Colligan (Rockford, Ill.) will all compete Saturday at the United States National Cross Country Championships. The races will take place at Fort Vancouver Park in Vancouver, Wash.
Evjen, a junior at NU, will race in the 8-kilometer senior division, while freshmen Blakeslee and Colligan will run in the 6-kilometer junior division (under-20). The top six runners in each race will earn a spot on the U.S. team that will compete at the World Cross Country Championships March 24-25 in Dublin, Ireland.
Evjen was Northwestern's top runner in every race during the 2000 season, and became the first Wildcat runner to qualify for NCAA's since the sport regained varsity status in 1998. She earned second team All-Big Ten honors with a 12th-place finish at the Big Ten Championships, and all-district honors with a 11th-place finish in that meet.
Blakeslee scored for the Wildcats in every meet this season, and narrowly missed out on all-district honors with a 30th-place finish at the regional meet. Colligan, meanwhile, scored for NU in five of the eight races in which she competed.
