Northwestern Names Athletes of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern University has named its Athletes of the Week for February 12. The selections were based on athletic competition conducted from February 5-11.

MALE -- Jitim Young, Basketball
Freshman guard Jitim Young (Chicago, Ill./Gordon Tech) proved to be the glue in Saturday's win over Iowa that snapped a 32-game Big Ten regular-season losing streak. Young scored 16 points, going 6-of-10 from the field, and collected four steals in the victory. Earlier in the week, he had 13 points (4-of-6 from the field), snared two rebounds and had an assist and a steal in a loss to Minnesota.

FEMALE -- Simona Petrutiu, Tennis
Junior Simona Petrutiu (Constanta, Romania/Southern Illinois) went 2-0 this weekend, defeating opponents from both North Carolina and Alabama in straight sets. Playing at No. 5 singles, she defeated UNC's Caroline Hill (6-3, 6-0) and Alabama's Dominique Glinzler (6-1, 6-3). Petrutiu is now 13-4 on the season and 6-0 in dual matches.
