EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern University men's basketball player Jitim Young (Chicago, Ill./Gordon Tech) was named Big Ten Co-Player of the Week Monday by the conference office. It is the first time the sophomore guard has been honored by the conference office, and the first Big Ten honor of the season for any Wildcat player. He shared the honor with Minnesota forward Dusty Rychart.

Young led Northwestern to its first-ever win the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on November 28, when the Wildcats defeated Florida State, 57-50. He scored a game-high 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field, and also tied for team-high honors with six rebounds and had four steals. Early on, he settled the team down by scoring seven straight points by himself after FSU had scored the first four points of the game.

Currently, Young leads the team and is third in the Big Ten in scoring, averaging 17.2 points per game. He also leads the conference with 3.00 steals per contest. Northwestern is off to a 4-1 start for the first time since 1998 and just the third time since 1994. The Wildcats are next in action Saturday, hosting Kansas State at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
