Northwestern Fencing Dominates First Duals

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Northwestern's women's fencing team swept the competition at the Ohio State Duals this weekend to start off the season with a perfect 6-0 record.
In Sunday's dual competition, the Wildcats defeated Case Western (25-2), Michigan (24-3), Detroit-Mercy (26-1), Michigan State (19-8) and Cleveland State (26-1).
The 'Cats also emerged victorious in a battle with rival Ohio State, with the final score 15-12 in NU's favor. In that dual competition the Wildcats were led by the sabre squad, which posted a 6-1 performance.
Saturday's Ohio State Open allowed Northwestern's fencers to compete unattached. Freshman Julia Foldi (Budapest, Hungary) won the women's foil competition, junior All-American Kate Rudkin (Boulder, Colo./Boulder) won the women's ep?e, and freshman Lauren Van Gieson (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) took third in the women's sabre.
The next official competition for Northwestern will be held in January. The Wildcats will continue to host U.S. Fencing events through November.
