Northwestern Names Athletes of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern University has named its Athletes of the Week for January 8. The selections were based on NU athletic competition from January 1-7.

MALE -- JASON ERWINSKI, WRESTLING
Jason Erwinski (Tinley Park, Ill./Mt. Carmel) defeated all three of his opponents at the Lone Star Duals in Arlington, Texas this weekend. Erwinski upped his overall record to 7-2 as he earned an 8-6 decision over Drew Kelly of Northern Iowa before pinning his next two opponents. He needed just 1:42 to defeat Michael Carbonaro of Navy and 1:05 to pin Isaiah Camp of Stanford.

FEMALE -- DANA LEONARD, BASKETBALL
Senior guard Dana Leonard (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South), starting her first game of the season, connected for 19 points to lead the Wildcats in a 66-61 loss to Ohio State Sunday. Prior to this start, Leonard had seen action in nine games, averaging 5.3 points in 15.0 minutes of play.
