Northwestern Names Athletes of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern University has named its Athletes of the Week for January 29. The selections were based on athletic competition from January 22-28.

MALE -- Kellan O'Connor, Swimming
Sophomore Kellan O'Connor (Phoenix, Ariz./Brohy Prepatory) broke a pool and school record on his way to victory in the 200 butterfly against Ohio State and Iowa on Friday. His time of 1:46.59 breaks his previous school record from a year ago by .39 of a second, and breaks the pool record by 1.94 seconds. On Saturday, O'Connor finished the two-day meet with a first in the 400 individual medley (3:59.51) and a second in the 100 butterfly (49.72). Each of his times were team and personal season bests.

FEMALE -- Kate Rudkin, Fencing
Sophomore Kate Rudkin (Boulder, Colo./Boulder) led the foil squad with an unblemished record of 8-0 over the weekend, including three wins against No. 7 Notre Dame. Rudkin is now 35-2 on the season and moves into seventh place on NU's career epee wins list with 138.
