Men's Tennis Opens Season at Big Ten Championships

EVANSTON, ILL. - The Northwestern University men's tennis team had its hopes of a Big Ten singles title crushed Sunday with the elimination of eighth-seeded Brad Erickson. Erickson fell to Minnesota's Eric Robertson (6-3, 6-2) in the Round of 32. Erickson had defeated Indiana's Paul Jacobson in the first round (4-6, 6-1, 6-4).

The Wildcats are out of the Main Draw, but several NU players remain alive in the 7-8-9 Draw and the main consolation draw.

Russell Bennett swept through the field in the 7-8-9 Draw and will meet Ohio State's Vince Ng in the championship match on Monday at 8:30 a.m. Bennett defeated Wisconsin's Justin Baker (6-2, 5-7, 6-4) to land in the title match. In the consolation round, Jackie Jenkins will meet Minnesota's Tyson Parry Monday at 8:30 a.m. in the championship match.
