EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern University has announced its Athletes of the Week for Sept. 25. The selections were made based on athletic competition from Sept. 18-24.

MALE -- TIM LONG, FOOTBALL
Senior Tim Long (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) kicked a 46-yard field goal -- his career best -- into a swirling wind as time expired in regulation Saturday at Wisconsin. That allowed Northwestern to tie the Badgers and sent the game into overtime, where the Wildcats eventually knocked off the nation's seventh-ranked team. Long also had a 22-yard field goal and was perfect on five point-after attempts.

FEMALE -- NICOLE SMITH, FIELD HOCKEY
Junior Nicole Smith (Warnbro, Western Australia/Como Senior) scored four goals and recorded two assists to help the field hockey team go 2-0 over the weekend. Smith scored the game-winner in overtime against No. 15 Michigan State on Saturday to start the Big Ten season 1-0. She tallied two goals and one assist in each game.
