Cross Country Runs to Easy Victory

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern University women's cross country roared to victory in its first race of 2000, scoring 18 points to blow away a five-team field at the 2-mile UIC Home Opener Saturday morning.
The Wildcats finished far ahead of second-place Loyola-Chicago, which scored 50 points.
Sophomore Rachel Evjen (Eau Claire, Wis./North), an All-District runner a year ago, led the way as Northwestern captured seven of the first eight spots across the finish line. Evjen's time was 11:09, 12 seconds ahead of freshman Emily Blakeslee (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) who was second. Nora Colligan (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) was fourth overall in 11:22, while Laura Evans (Christiansburg, Va./Christiansburg) was fifth in 11:24 and Nicole Kuznia (Olivia, Minn./BOLD) rounded out NU's scorers at sixth place in 11:26.
Northwestern will be back in action next Friday in Peoria, Ill., competing in the Bradley Open.
