EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern University has named its athletes of the week for Sept. 11. The selections were based on athletic action from Sept. 4-10.
MALE -- DAMIEN ANDERSON, FOOTBALL
Damien Anderson (Wilmington, Ill./Wilmington) ran for a career-high 187 yards and a pair of long touchdowns in Saturday's 38-5 win over Duke. The first TD run went for 56 yards in the first quarter, while the second TD went for 66 yards in the fourth quarter. Anderson moved into sixth place on the school's all-time rushing list, ahead of Byron Sanders, and he needs just seven yards to move ahead of Stanley Davenport into fifth place and 76 to pass Mike Adamle in fourth place.
FEMALE -- KATIE HERTZ, SOCCER
Katie Hertz (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) led the Wildcats to their first win of the season as she had two goals and one assist in a 6-2 win over Detroit. Her first goal came only 37 seconds into play of the first half, setting a new NU women's soccer record for quickest goal in a game. The previous record, set in 1996, was held by Erin Aubry at 44 seconds. In the Wildcats' second game of the Wildcat Classic, Hertz led the team with four shots against Montana, who came into the game with only one loss. The game went into double overtime and ended in a 0-0 tie.
