Women's Tennis Defeats Tulsa, 5-0

EVANSTON, Ill. - In the second round of the 2000 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championship, 14th-ranked Northwestern defeated the University of Tulsa, 5-0. The Wildcats swept the singles matches to down the second-seeded and 27th-ranked Golden Hurricanes in straight sets, and as a result advanced to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen of the Division I Women's Tennis Team Championships, to be held May 18-21 at Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif.
The `Cats (24-4) followed the strong play of No. 1 singles player Katherine Nasser as she defeated Tulsa's No. 1, Bianca Posada, 6-1, 6-1. No. 2 singles player Shannon Duffy's match was suspended due to No. 6 Jennifer Lutgert's deciding win over Marjolein van Dongen, 6-3, 6-2, to end the contest. Nos. 3-5 all defeated their opponents in straight sets.
