In the first round of the 2000 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championship, the 14th-ranked Wildcats needed just 45 minutes to hand Oral Roberts a 5-0 defeat.
The `Cats (23-4) -- the top seed in the four-team regional -- blew past Oral Roberts (9-6) with wins at the Nos. 2-6 singles positions to post the shutout. Northwestern dominated from start to finish, as Oral Roberts was unable to take a game in any of the five singles matches that counted.
Northwestern will meet Tulsa -- a 5-3 winner over Minnesota in the other regional semifinal -- in the regional championship Sunday at 1 p.m. on Tulsa's Harwell Tennis Courts. The winner will advance to play at the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Team Championships, which will be held May 18-21 at Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif.
