EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women's tennis team recorded its 14th victory of the season, sweeping Purdue Sunday afternoon at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center. The 14th-ranked Wildcats are 14-2 on the season and 4-0 in Big Ten competition. The Boilers drop to 6-8 on the season and 1-4 in the Big Ten.

The 'Cats jumped to an early lead, winning the doubles point by taking two of the three matches. Lia Jackson and Marine Piriou defeated Lyndsey Fick and Walgenbach, 9-7, and Shannon Duffy and Leigh Weinraub defeated Erika Quebe and Melissa Iqbal, 8-4.

In singles action, the 'Cats won five of the six matches in straight sets for the undisputed win. Katherine Nasser defeated Jennifer Embry 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 1 spot. Shannon Duffy and Colleen Cheng each got straight-set wins at Nos. 2 and 3. Duffy was the 7-6, 7-5 victor over Purdue's Shannon Taheny, while Cheng easily won over Melissa Iqbal, 6-1, 6-2. Lia Jackson defeated Erika Quebe, 6-2, 6-0, for her 16th consecutive win of the season. At No. 6, Jennifer Lutgert defeated Lynsey Fick 6-2, 6-0. Finally, Marine Piriou fell to Lisa Walgenbach in the first set (3-6) but rebounded to take the next two for the win (6-3, 6-1) at No. 5.

Northwestern will be back in action on Saturday, April 1, when they play host to the Fighting Illini at 4 p.m. at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center. In case of inclement weather, the match will be played at the Johnson Tennis Center.
