EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern University women's tennis team, ranked 12th in the latest ITA Collegiate National Rankings, defeated the University of San Diego, 5-1, Wednesday night in San Diego, Calif. The win improved the Wildcats to 12-2 overall.

Northwestern was spurred by straight-set wins in the Nos. 3-6 singles spots, while Shannon Duffy was able to pull out a third-set tiebreaker at No. 2 for the Wildcats' final point. USD's only point came at No. 1, where Zuzana Lesenarova defeated Katherine Nasser in straight sets.

Northwestern will be back in action twice this weekend, hosting Indiana Saturday and Purdue Sunday at the Johnson Tennis Center in Evanston for a pair of Big Ten matches. Both matches are scheduled to start at 11 a.m. Central.
