Women's Swimmers Seventh After Second Day of NCAA Championships
3/18/2000 12:00:00 AM | Women's Swimming and Diving
Georgia continues to lead the way with 336.5 points, while Arizona is second (299) and Stanford is third (245). The Wildcats have 129.5 points, but are in striking distance of fifth place heading into Saturday's final events.
Amy Balcerzak came up with her best swim of the year in the 100-meter breaststroke, tying Cal's Staciana Stitts for second place behind Georgia's Kristy Kowal. Kowal set an American record with a time of 1:05.74, while Balcerzak and Stitts clocked 1:06.79. Balcerzak's time was a school record.
The 200 medley relay team of Balcerzak, Dominique Diezi, Merritt Adams and Courtney Allen had a fifth-place finish in 1:51.63, also breaking a school record, and Adams came right back from that event to place 12th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:01.22.
Northwestern missed a golden opportunity to gain some points in the 100-meter backstroke, as Susannah Sample was 17th and Tashy Bohm was 18th in the morning prelims.
