EVANSTON, Ill. - The 18th-ranked Northwestern women's tennis team defeated Texas A&M, 6-3, Friday afternoon in Houston to kick off a three-match weekend in Texas. The win improved the Wildcats to 3-0 for the 2000 spring season.

Northwestern won four of the six singles matches to kick off the day, then took two of three doubles matches to clinch the victory.

In singles, Katherine Nasser overcame a first-set loss to win in three sets over Martina Nederestova at No. 1, while Marine Piriou also needed three sets to win at No. 5. Lia Jackson and Jennifer Lutgert, meanwhile, were straight-set winners at Nos. 4 and 6, respectively. The Wildcats' only losses were by Shannon Duffy and Colleen Cheng, and both came in three sets.

In doubles action, Jackson and Piriou combined for an 8-1 win at No. 2 while Duffy and Lutgert were 8-3 winners at No. 3.

NU will be back in action tomorrow against Texas Christian, then the Wildcats take on Houston Sunday.
