EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern University named its Athletes of the Week for November 6. The selections were made based on competition from October 30-November 5.
MALE -- The entire football offense
It's hard to single out one particular player from Saturday's 54-51 win against Michigan at Ryan Field. The Wildcats set a school record with 654 total yards -- the most ever given up by a Michigan defense -- and came just one point shy of tying the modern school record in that category. The 332 rushing yards compiled by the `Cats was the most ever given up by a Wolverine defense, and the 322 passing yards marked the most efficient day in the air since 1996. Northwestern has now reached the 50-point plateau twice this season, the first time that has happened since 1904.
FEMALE -- Katie Simmons, Swimming
Freshman Katie Simmons (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) led the women's swimming squad in a meet against Indiana on Saturday with three victories. She won the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.33 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:16.55. She was also victorious in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:21.33, and was a member of the 400 freestyle relay that finished second.
