Women's Basketball Defeats Miami (Fla.), 56-48

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern University women's basketball remained unbeaten in the young season with a 56-48 win over Miami (Fla.) at Welsh-Ryan Arena Friday night.
The Wildcats improved to 2-0 on the season, while the Hurricanes fell to 1-1.
Miami reeled off the game's first six points, but Northwestern came back with an 11-1 run after that and never looked back in taking the victory. The Wildcats upped the lead gra dually through the rest of the half and eventually took a 34-24 lead into the break.
That lead held up through the second half, though Miami drew within five points on three occasions. The Wildcats closed out the win by going 6-for-6 from the foul line in the game's final minute.
Billee Russell had a double-double to lead the Wildcat charge, with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Leslie Dolland had 13 points to lead Northwestern in that category, while freshman Michelle Zylstra added 12. Nicole Daniels also had 10 boards for the 'Cats.
For the Hurricanes, Shelia James had 18 points to lead all scorers.
Northwestern will host Drake Monday evening at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Tipoff time is 7 p.m.
