EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern University women's basketball team will open the 2000-01 season with a game at Northern Illnois, tonight (Monday) at the Evans Field House at 7 p.m.

The Wildcats are 17-9 all-time against the Huskies (1-0), and look to win its eighth of last nine season openers. Northwestern's last loss in a season opener was in 1998-99 when it dropped an 101-89 decision at UC-Santa Barbara.

Head Coach June Olkowski enters her second season at the helm of the Wildcat program and her 12th season as a head coach. Last year Olkowski and her staff guided the Wildcats to a 7-21 overall record and a 3-13, 10th place finish in the Big Ten.

Northern Illinois, under the direction of Carol Hammerle, enter tonight's game 1-0, after a win over Illinois State Friday night. Hammerle is in her third season as the Huskies' head coach. She has compiled a 16-38 record.
