EVANSTON, Ill. - Sophomore Rachel Evjen (Eau Claire, Wis./North) will represent Northwestern at the NCAA Women's Cross Country Championships on Monday, November 20.
Evjen, who was Northwestern's top runner in every race this fall, finished 11th individually at the Midwest Regional on Saturday. She was one of four women picked from that race to run in the national championship meet despite the fact that their team did not qualify. Evjen is the first Wildcat runner to compete at the national meet since the Northwestern women's cross country program regained varsity status prior to the 1998 season after an 11-year hiatus.
"I'm ecstatic that in just our third year back as a program we have someone who will represent us at NCAA's," said NU coach April Ecke. "And this is something that is well-deserved -- Rachel set high goals for herself at the beginning of this year, and she has worked hard all year long for this fall. This is a great opportunity for her to prove how good she is on the national level."
The NCAA Women's Cross Country Championship will be run in Ames, Iowa, next Monday, November 20, at 10 a.m. central.
