Women's Cross Country Finishes Fourth at Midwest Regional

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women's cross country team finished fourth out of 23 teams at the NCAA Midwest Regional Saturday morning in Waterloo, Iowa.

The Wildcats scored 131 points, missing third place by just seven points behind Missouri. Kansas State won the regional title with 61 points, outdistancing Minnesota (84). Both Kansas State and Minnesota automatically qualify for the NCAA national championship meet, which will take place November 19 in Ames, Iowa.

With its fourth-place showing, the Wildcats boast a chance of receiving an at-large bid to the national championship meet.

Rachel Evjen (Eau Claire, Wis./North) once again led Northwestern. The sophomore finished 11th overall, earning all-district in the process, with a time of 21:13 on the 6-kilometer course. Junior Laura Evans (Christiansburg, Va./Christiansburg) also earned all-district with a 19th-place finish (21:32).

Northwestern's other scorers were Emily Blakeslee (Rockford, Mich./Rockford), who was 30th in 21:46, Karen Rogers (St. Louis, Mo./Kirkwood), who was 31st in 21:49, and Nora Colligan (Rockford, Mich./Rockford), who was 40th in 22:12.

Co-captains Shannon McGowan (Chicago, Ill./St. Scholastica) and Maria Badaracco (Brookline, Mass./Brookline) also ran for NU. McGowan was 46th in 22:21, while Badaracco was 80th in 22:51.
