EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern University women's cross country team took second place at the 46-team Lakefront Invitational Saturday morning. The 6-kilometer race was run at Montrose Harbor in Chicago.
The Wildcats were one of just two teams to score fewer than 100 points in the race, with 67 to finish behind champion Missouri (50). Loyola was third with 122 points, while Western Michigan was fourth with 195.
For the fourth time in four races, sophomore Rachel Evjen (Eau Claire, Wis./North) was the top Wildcat finisher. After a 1-2 finish by Missouri's Anna Marie Brooks and Kerry Hils, Evjen was third across the finish line in a time of 21:36. Laura Evans (Christiansbury, Va./Christiansburg) was 12th overall in 22:05.
Karen Rogers (St. Louis, Mo./Kirkwood) was 15th in 22:16, Emily Blakeslee (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) was 17th in 22:21, and Nicole Kuznia (Olivia, Minn./BOLD) was 20th in 22:28 to round out NU's scorers. A total of 17 women ran for the Wildcats.
