EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern University women's cross country team finished 28th of 56 teams at the 28th Memorial Cross Country Classic. The pre-national event was run at Iowa State on the course that will be used next month for the NCAA Championships. The Wildcats scored 774 points. Brigham Young scored an upset victory in the meet, with 117 points to down top-ranked Stanford (151).

Once again, sophomore Rachel Evjen was the top 'Cat. She completed the 6-kilometer course in 22:28.8, good for 83rd overall. Laura Evans was right on Evjen's heels, scoring 85 points with a time of 22:29.9, while Emily Blakeslee also finished inside of 100 points at 99 with a time of 22:37.9.

Karen Rogers (227/23:59.9) and Maria Badaracco (280/24:37.4) also scored for the Wildcats. Nicole Kuznia (291/24:42.5) and Nora Colligan (327/25:13.8) were the Wildcats' other runners in the race.

The individual title was won by Wisconsin's Erica Palmer, who ran the course in 20:56.7 to edge North Carolina's Shalane Flanagan by two seconds.

Northwestern's next meet will be the Big Ten Championships, which will be run in Madison, Wis., on Sunday, Oct. 29. The women's race is scheduled that day for 10:45 a.m.
