EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women?s basketball team put forth another excellent outing Wednesday night, but a decisive run midway through the second half allowed Wisconsin to defeat the Wildcats, 74-60.
Ironically, the Badger run came after Northwestern (5-9, 2-2 Big Ten) took its only lead of the second half. Down, 40-34, the ?Cats went on a 9-1 run that was capped when Dana Leonard drilled her second three-point basket of the streak.
The loss of the lead seemed to spur Wisconsin (7-6, 1-3 Big Ten), who proceeded to hold Northwestern without a field goal for the next 6:17 while going on an 18-4 run that made the score 59-47. Tami Sears ended the skein with a layin at the 6:46 mark, but NU got no closer than nine points after that.
Sears led the way for the Wildcats, with 17 points and nine rebounds, while Leonard added 16 points and Leslie Schock chipped in with 12 points and five assists. As a team, Northwestern had 19 assists on its 21 baskets.
For Wisconsin, sophomore Tamara Moore had a monster game, tying her career high with 28 points, while LaTonya Sims had 13 points and 13 rebounds. Jessie Stomski also had a double-double, tallying 10 points and 10 boards.
Northwestern will be back in action Sunday afternoon, meeting Indiana in Bloomington at 2 p.m.
