NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
CHERISSE LANCASTER (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) ? WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Cherisse claimed her second individual title in as many weeks as she won the Stan Lyons Invitational this Saturday in Indianapolis, Ind. The sophomore finished in a time of 17:04.07, shattering the course record by 50 seconds and running 40 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. Lancaster's performance helped the Wildcats win their second consecutive meet.
SAM SIMMONS (Kansas City, Mo./F.L. Schlagle) - FOOTBALL
Sam recorded 191 all-purpose yards, including an 87-yard punt return for a touchdown, in the win over TCU. It was the second-longest punt return in Northwestern history and the first punt return for a touchdown since Brian Musso in 1996. Simmons also had a 71-yard reception that set up the Wildcats' other TD. On the day, Simmons had two receptions for 84 yards and three punt returns for 110 yards. For his efforts, Simmons was named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week.
