Women Swimmers Fifth After First Day of SMU Classic

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern womens swimming and diving team is currently in fifth place after the first session of the prestigious SMU Classic in Dallas, Texas. The six teams participating in the meet are all ranked in the top 13 nationally.

Junior Amy Balcerzak (Sharon, Pa./The Peddie School) and classmate Courtney Allen (Monument, Colo./Air Academy) each have recorded second place finshes to pace the Wildcats. Balcerzak finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke in a season-best 1:03.37, while Allen took second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.42. In addition, the relay team of Allen, Balcerzak, junior Dominique Diezi (Zurich, Switzerland/Kantonsschule Stadelhofen) and senior Cathy Lundin (Syracuse, Ind./Wawasee) finsihed second in the 400-yard medley relay in 3:46.99.

The SMU Classic finishes up Sunday, with the session beginning at 7:30 p.m.
