Men's Golf in Second After Day Two

EVANSTON, Ill. - The No. 12-ranked Northwestern men's golf team finished day two of the three-day NCAA Central Regionals in second place with a 7-over-par 295. The Wildcats (583) are seven strokes behind first-place Minnesota (576) after two rounds. For the second-straight day, no NU golfer finished worse than 3-over-par. Wildcat junior David Shaffer (Andover, Mass./Andover) led the team on Friday with a 1-over-par 73.
Sophomore Luke Donald (High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England) is in sixth place individually, only two strokes out of the lead. Minnesota's James McLean and Missouri's David Suggs lead the tournament, each with a 3-under-par 141.
The Central Regionals are being played at Ohio State's Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio (par 72, 7,100 yards). Of the 21-team field, the top 10 teams will advance to the 30-team field at the NCAA Championships in Chaska, Minn. on June 2.
