EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern head wrestling coach Tim Cysewski announced today the signing of two athletes to national letters of intent to wrestle at NU beginning in the 1999-2000 school year: Steve Cordova (Heber City, Utah/Wasatch) and Ryan Kane (Temecula, Calif./Temecula).
Cordova is gunning for his third Utah state championship this season. He placed first in the U.S. Cadet World Team Trials and fifth in the World Trials. Cordova is currently ranked fourth in the nation at 125 pounds, which is his projected weight classification at Northwestern. Kane is the defending California state champion at 145 pounds. He finished second at the 1997 Cadet World Trials and was named 1997 Cadet All-American. Kane is also a five-time California state freestyle/greco champion. He is projected to compete next season for the Wildcats at 165 pounds.
Head coach Tim Cysewski says, "I'm very pleased that these guys decided to come to Northwestern. They are great wrestlers and will give us depth at the lower and middle weight classes."
