Women's Tennis Downs Ohio State, 6-1

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern won its fourth-straight match by defeating Ohio State, 6-1, in Evanston. The Buckeyes had previously been undefeated in the conference (5-0), but fell at Illinois on Saturday, 4-3. The Wildcats improve to 11-4, 5-1 in the Big Ten.
After sweeping for the doubles point and then getting victories from freshman Lia Jackson (Milwaukee, Wis.) and sophomore Colleen Cheng (Hillsborough, Calif.), junior Jennifer Lutgert (Evergreen, Colo.) clinched the win for Northwestern with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph at No. 6 singles.
Sophomore Shannon Duffy (Plano, Texas) remained undefeated in Big Ten play. This time she was a 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 winner at No. 2 singles. Duffy and junior Leigh Weinraub (Dix Hills, N.Y.) also remained perfect at No. 3 doubles with an 8-6 victory. The duo is 6-0 against conference competition.
The most dramatic win of the afternoon came from senior captain Laura Guignon (St. Louis, Mo.) at No. 3 singles. After capturing the first set (6-2), Guignon got beat, 6-7 (6) and then found herself down 5-0 in the third set. She battled back to defeat OSU's Monica Rincon, 7-5.
The Wildcats will next be in action at Purdue on Sat., Apr. 17, beginning at 11 a.m.
