Northwestern blanked its second Big Ten opponent in two weeks, this time a 7-0 victory over Purdue to remain in first place in the conference with a 6-1 Big Ten mark, 12-4 overall.
The Wildcats got victories from junior Katherine Nasser (Arlington Heights, Ill.) and Laura Guignon (St. Louis, Mo.) at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. The duo, ranked No. 27 in the country, hooked up for a 9-7 victory at No. 1 doubles. They have now won nine of their last 10 doubles matches together and five-straight.
Guignon recorded her 20th singles win of the season. Now 20-8 on the year, Guignon has reached the 20-win mark three separate seasons during her career.
Sophomore Shannon Duffy (Plano, Texas) remained undefeated in Big Ten play (7-0) at both singles and doubles. She scored a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles and teamed with junior Jennifer Lutgert (Evergreen, Colo.) for a 9-7 win at No. 3 doubles.
Lutgert continued her stellar season by extending her singles victory streak to seven-straight. She owns a team-best record of 24-5 at the No. 6 spot and easily won today (6-0, 6-0).
Northwestern plays at Indiana on Sunday morning at 10 a.m.
