Women's Tennis Battles in All-American Tournament

LOS ANGELES - Northwestern sophomore Colleen Cheng (Hillsborough, Calif./Burlingame) advanced to Tuesday's qualifying round at the Riviera Women's All-American Championships with a pair of two-set victories in Sunday's prequalifier held at UCLA.

In the first round, Cheng defeated Celena McCoury from Arizona State, 6-4, 6-1. She then knocked off Baylor's Karin Anderson, 7-6 (8), 6-2 in the second round which put her among eight singles players (from the original 64) who will move on to the qualifying round to be played tomorrow at the Riviera Tennis Club.

The Women's All-American Championships is the second leg of the ITA Collegiate Grand Slam.
