EAST LANSING, Mich. - The backcourt tandem of senior guard Megan Chawansky and sophomore point guard Dana Leonard combined for 49 points, but it was not enough to lift Northwestern to victory as Michigan State rolled to an 81-69 win Friday night.

Junior forward Kristen Rasmussen propelled the Spartans to a 39-34 halftime lead with 20 points and 12 rebounds. In the second half, NU got hurt by the fast-breaking and outside shooting of Spartan guard Maxann Reese, who finished with 20 points, including 15 in the second stanza.

Chawansky led all scorers with 29 points. She was one off her career-high of 30 points. Leonard, who came back after missing the Penn State game with a deep shin contusion, battled through a stomach flu to score 20 points, including a career-high six three-pointers. She also had a personal-best six steals to go along with seven assists and just one turnover in 38 minutes of action. Sophomore center Tami Sears ended up with a team-high 12 rebounds.

For the game, Michigan State outrebounded Northwestern, 49-35.
