Women's Golf Finishes Third at Lady Northern

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women's golf team finished in third place at this weekend's 1998 Lady Northern Invitational, played at the Kampen Course in West Lafayette, Ind. The Wildcats shot rounds of 311-330-315 to finish with a team total of 956. Michigan State won the tournament at 947 with Indiana taking runner-up at 951. This was the first tournament of the year for the Wildcats.

Individually, sophomore Christie Hermes (Dixon, Ill./Newman Central) took third place after shooting rounds of 73-79-79 to finish at 15-over-par 231. Indiana's Erin Carney won the individual crown at 225. Wildcat freshman Emily Gilley (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor), playing in her first collegiate tournament, posted rounds of 79-81-75 to finish tied for sixth place at 235.

Other Northwestern finishers were: Kristen Beystehner (t27th, 76-87-83=246), Karen England (t35th, 83-88-78=249), Colleen Kiely (t52nd, 88-83-85=256) and Amylou Dueck (71st, 86-91-92=269).

The Wildcats are back in action next weekend at the Wolverine Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich.
