Women's Basketball Defeats Chicago Challengers, 71-56.

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern opened the second half with a 16-6 scoring run to break open a 27-27 first half tie with the Chicago Challengers in an exhibition contest Monday evening at Welsh-Ryan Arena. All five starters scored during the opening minutes of the second half as the Wildcats went on to a 71-56 victory.
Junior forward Leslie Schock (Elgin, Ill./Elgin) and sophomore point guard Dana Leonard (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) each had 14 points. Schock was 7-of-9 from the floor and she pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.
Preseason All-America candidate Kristina Divjak (Dyer, Ind./Lake Central) led the Wildcats with 11 second-half points after scoring only two in the first half. She finished with 13 points.
Senior guard Megan Chawansky (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) was one short of a triple-double, tallying nine points, nine rebounds and nine assists.
The 'Cats outrebounded the Challengers, 63-45. Former NU standout Trish Babcock, who played at Northwestern from 1991-94, led the Challengers with 14 points (6-of-8 shooting).
The Wildcats, who went 2-0 in their two exhibition games, open the 1998-99 season Sunday, Nov. 15 at the University of New Mexico. The game gets underway at 8 p.m. CT. Fans can catch all the action on WNUR (89.3 FM) and at www.wnur.org/sports/.
