HAMMOND, La. - Northwestern snapped a three-game losing streak in grand fashion this afternoon, scoring eight runs in the top of the first inning en route to a 16-5 blowout over SLU. Every Northwestern batter had at least one of the team's 23 hits, led by sophomore shortstop Jeremy Kurella (Dunedin, Fla./Dunedin), who went 5-for-6. Sophomore J.J. Standring (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita) went the distance for the 'Cats, striking out seven for his second win in two starts. Junior first baseman Pat Thompson (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) opened NU's scoring by hitting a three-run homer before SLU recorded an out. Junior outfielder Kris Musselman (Indian Springs, Ohio/Fairfield) followed with home runs in the fifth and ninth innings.
