Softball Wins at Georgia Tech, 5-2

EVANSTON, Ill. -Northwestern scored in four of the seven innings, and withheld a late rally to defeat Georgia Tech, 5-2, tonight in Atlanta. With the win, the Wildcats improved to 10-14 on the season.

Northwestern got on the board first, scoring a single run in the top of the first inning. Gretchen Barnes doubled and scored on a throwing error by Yellow Jacket third baseman Jamie Frost. A Brooke Siebel RBI-single in the third inning gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead, and senior Lindsey Prezell put Northwestern up 4-0 with her third home run of the season, a two-run blast in the fifth.

Siebel went six and two-thirds innings on the mound, allowing only two runs on four hits, to earn her eighth victory of the season.

The Wildcats return to action this weekend, competing in the 25-team Buzz Classic in Marietta, Ga. Northwestern opens pool play on Friday with a pair of games.
