Rosengren Selected by Atlanta Braves

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern junior right hander Phil Rosengren (Rye, N.Y./Country Day) was selected by the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday in day two of the major league baseball amateur draft. He becomes the second Wildcat taken in the draft, following John Seaman who went to the Florida Marlins.

Rosengren went 1-6 with a 7.23 ERA this year, but came on strong at the end of the season. In his final outing vs. Minnesota, Rosengren tossed a complete-game six hitter, fanning a career-high 10 batters while walking just one in a 4-2 loss. He ended the season third in the Big Ten in fewest doubles per nine innings (1.2) and ninth in the conference in most strikeouts per nine innings (7.9). In conference play, he was seventh in the league with 36 strikeouts.
