EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern swept Penn State, 7-0, to improve to 10-4 on the season, 4-1 in the Big Ten. It marked the first clean sweep for the Wildcats since a 7-0 victory over Illinois State on Nov. 2, 1997. It also improved Northwestern's series record to 8-0 all-time against the Lady Lions.
Sophomore Shannon Duffy (Plano, Texas) remained undefeated in Big Ten play. This time she was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at No. 3 singles. Duffy and junior Leigh Weinraub (Dix Hills, N.Y.) also remained perfect at No. 3 doubles with an 8-2 victory. The duo is 5-0 against conference competition.
The Wildcats, winners of four of their last five matches, take on top-ranked Ohio State (12-5, 5-0 Big Ten) tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center in Evanston.
