Fencers Tie for 19th at NCAA Championships

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern's women's fencing team finished tied for 19th place at the 1999 NCAA Fencing Championships. Junior Meghan Gaseor (Lebanon, Ill./Belleville Township East) scored seven points for the Wildcats in the women's epee and freshman Kristen Dorf (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) seven in the women's foil for a team total of 14 points. Penn State won the competition with 171 points.

Both Gaseor and Dorf were competing in their first NCAA Championships. Gaseor won seven of 23 matches in round-robin competition to finish in 20th place individually in the women's epee. Dorf won seven of 23 matches as well to finish 18th in the women's foil. Northwestern's women finished the regular season with a 24-5 match record, their best ever.
